Signs & Symptoms of TMJ (TMD)
At Raman Center for TMJ & Sleep in Kansas City, we often see patients with the symptoms below. If two or more sound familiar, it may be time for a personalized evaluation
- Headaches or migraines
- Jaw pain or soreness
- Clicking or popping in the jaw
- Neck and shoulder discomfort
- Dizziness or vertigo
- Ear ringing or fullness
- Facial muscle tightness
- Difficulty chewing or limited opening
- Teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism)
Our Diagnostic Approach
We combine a thorough clinical exam with comprehensive diagnostic testing to understand how your joints, muscles, bite, and airway are working together.
- Health history and symptom review
- TMJ and bite evaluation (range of motion, joint sounds, muscle tenderness)
- Neuromuscular diagnostics and precision bite records
- Imaging (e.g., airway/joint assessment)
- Sleep screening and take‑home testing when symptoms suggest an airway component (we coordinate testing and review results with you)
Goal: Diagnose the true source of your pain and map a predictable path to relief.
Your Treatment Pathway
Our care is delivered in phases, so you know what happens, when, and why.
Phase I — Orthotic Therapy (Trial Stabilization)
A custom, fixed orthotic gently guides your jaw into a healthier, more comfortable position. Expect focused follow‑ups for targeted refinements and symptom tracking over the next 90 days.
Phase II — Long‑Term Stabilization
Once you’re consistently comfortable in the corrected position, long-term options may include a CAD/CAM aesthetic removable orthotic, orthodontics, or restorative dentistry—designed to stabilize your bite and maintain comfort We’ll discuss timing, scope, and which Phase II option makes sense for your goals.
Sleep & Airway Support (If Needed)
If snoring or sleep‑disordered breathing is part of your picture, we’ll review your sleep test results and discuss oral appliance therapy as appropriate. We coordinate with your medical providers as needed.
